The Freeman family has been in the ‘property business’ since 1928, owning marinas, industrial land, office space and residential homes for lease.
Mark has been running all the operations since 1961 and while he doesn’t care to be an owner, he still supports the rest of the family in their endeavors. Well, the start-up money has to come from somewhere!
Margie began working for Mark Freeman in 1979 at Fremont Boat, keeping the books and renting out boat moorage. They married in 1984 and her duties expanded – to say the least. She has been exposed to all manner of leasing situations, contracts and government rules, regulations and codes, and while she loves a good challenge, the most fun is meeting new people, finding out about them and trying to find a fit for their leasing needs. If we have nothing that will work for them, we always try to refer them to someone else.
Erik has been the President and owner of Fremont Tugboat Co., Inc. since 1995. Along with his first love, towing, he has been brought up in the real estate business, holds his own real estate license and rents out several of his own single family homes as well as holding property manager duties for a few marinas.
The brainstorm behind RentGreatSpace.com came when Margie looked around our city and saw tons of “For Lease” signs for all manner of ‘spaces’, yet there was little advertising being done in the major papers – except for houses for sale. When she tried to lease out a small office space, the advertising budget went through the roof. There had to be a better way…but she didn’t see a solution on-line or on paper, so she gathered a solid team and they built a website to fill the need.
Along the way, we have addressed the other side of the equation as well – the renter. We created a way to have them fill out a “space wanted” ad that emails them when the advertiser posts an ad that fits their parameters. To protect everyone, we made it so that only account holders can view those ads – so not even other renters can see anyone else’s ad. Now the advertiser has an easy way to look for someone who needs space as well.
It has taken us almost two years, but the launch in January of 2007 was very gratifying. Now, we’re learning about the world of advertising – both virtual and hard copy in order to drive people to the site. It’s fun, exciting and nice to know that there is a genuine need to fill.
Dan has over 8 years of experience in web development, application programming, and design. His background also includes media related work, such as DVD Authoring, Editing, Filming, and graphic design. Dan brings a combination of technical and creative expertise to the RentGreatSpace team, where he has worked since its inception. He is currently employed at RealNetworks in Seattle as an Engineering Architect (software).
Dan is related to the Freeman family and has worked on many projects for them in the past, although RentGreatSpace is their largest collaboration. It is one that they are all very proud of, and they enjoy working on something where they can all provide their own special niche.
